We use very few. Reading weather pages requires no cookies at all - you'll only pick up a session cookie if you log in, and a couple of preference keys if you change how the site looks.
| NAME | TYPE | PURPOSE | LIFETIME |
|---|---|---|---|
| weathermetro_session | Cookie - essential | Keeps you logged in and ties form submissions to your session | Session / 2 hours idle |
| XSRF-TOKEN | Cookie - essential | Protects forms against cross-site request forgery | Session |
| remember_web_* | Cookie - essential | Only if you tick "remember me" at login | Until logout / expiry |
| wm-unit | Local storage - preference | Whether you read temperatures in °C or °F | Until you clear it |
| wm-sky | Local storage - preference | Time-of-day theme, if you override the automatic one | Until you clear it |
Local storage entries never leave your browser - they're read by the page itself, not sent to our servers, which is why your unit preference survives without an account.
We run no advertising cookies and no cross-site trackers. If we ever add privacy-respecting analytics, this page will say so before it goes live - and anything non-essential will ask first.
Two things load from outside our servers on some pages: Stripe on checkout (its own cookies apply, covered by Stripe's privacy policy) and OpenFreeMap base-map tiles on the weather map, which are fetched without cookies.
Your browser can block or clear cookies and site data at any time. Blocking the essential ones will log you out and break forms; clearing local storage simply resets your unit and theme preferences to their defaults.
